The Scenario
The property included a main residence, barn, and additional structures spread across 13 acres. The owner wanted comprehensive surveillance but had a non-negotiable requirement that footage remain under local control with no cloud storage, no subscriptions, and no third-party visibility into the system.
Challenge Identified
The main difficulty was not the camera count but the property itself: long distances between structures, no existing pathway to the barn, uneven terrain, and tree cover that complicated wireless line-of-sight. Any design also had to respect the owner’s requirement for a completely local surveillance architecture.
Solution Design
We deployed 11 UniFi Protect 4K cameras across the residence, barn, and key entry points, then established a dedicated building-to-building bridge path to carry traffic reliably to the remote structure. Video is stored locally on an 8TB NVR, giving the client a private system with predictable retention and no monthly dependency.

Methodology Applied
Every deployment follows the same four-phase field process so the finished system reflects planning and documentation, not on-site improvisation.
Terrain & RF Survey
The site walk covered the full 13-acre property, with special attention to bridge line-of-sight between the house and barn, likely camera blind spots, and the practical cable routes available on existing structures. Elevation and tree cover were measured before any equipment decisions were finalized.
Architecture Design
The system was designed as a local surveillance network first and a convenience feature second. That meant 11 cameras placed around actual approach paths and structure transitions, an 8TB NVR for predictable local retention, and a bridge design strong enough to support the remote barn without depending on consumer mesh behavior.
Precision Deployment
The three-day install included a 40-foot bridge mounting position for clean line-of-sight, more than 200 feet of weather-rated exterior cable work, and camera placement tuned to reduce blind spots without overexposing the architecture. The NVR and remote access were configured only after the physical paths were verified stable.
Sovereignty Transfer
The client received system credentials, coverage maps, warranty records, and maintenance guidance, along with a clean explanation of how storage, bridge connectivity, and mobile access were structured. The result was a surveillance platform the owner controlled end to end.
