Whole-Home WiFi Installation for Northern Virginia Properties

Dead zones, weak upstairs signal, overloaded mesh systems, and unstable video calls are usually infrastructure problems — not internet problems. Orbit Tech designs and installs hardwired access-point WiFi systems for homes, estates, and executive properties.

Why Consumer Mesh Systems Fail

"Router in the basement. Office upstairs."

— the most common pattern in initial consultations

Consumer mesh systems often depend on wireless links between nodes. Each hop can reduce usable throughput, especially across dense walls, multiple floors, or busy parts of the home.

Root Cause

The problem isn't your internet service. It's your infrastructure architecture.

A planned network gives each access point a dedicated wired path. That creates more predictable capacity and makes coverage easier to verify and support.

Understanding the Problem

WiFi problems are not always internet problems

Many homeowners upgrade Verizon, Xfinity, Cox, fiber, 5G, or Starlink service and still have weak coverage. The issue is often inside the property — router placement, wireless backhaul, wall materials, device density, or lack of hardwired access points.

Internet Service

  • Fiber, cable, 5G, or Starlink — bandwidth entering the property
  • Determines available speed at the modem
  • Can be fast at the modem and weak across the house
  • Upgrading your plan does not improve in-home coverage

Network Infrastructure

  • Gateway, cabling, switches, access points, and coverage design
  • Determines how reliably internet reaches every room and device
  • Large homes require hardwired access points for consistent coverage
  • This is what Orbit Tech designs, installs, and documents

Orbit Tech diagnoses both layers before recommending hardware. We keep your existing internet service where it works — and fix what the ISP never touches.

Service Scope

What our WiFi installations include

A professional WiFi installation is not a router setup. It is a coverage system — designed, cabled, configured, and documented.

Hardwired access points

Ceiling or wall-mounted, PoE-powered, positioned for coverage — not convenience

Structured cabling

Cat6 or Cat6A routed through attic, basement, crawl space, or utility areas

PoE switch & network rack

Clean installation, organized wiring, labeled ports for future serviceability

Gateway configuration

Router or gateway setup, QoS, and network optimization for real-world traffic

Guest network isolation

Separate WiFi that cannot access primary network resources or devices

IoT and smart-home separation

Dedicated segment for smart bulbs, locks, cameras, and automations

Outdoor WiFi

Patio, pool house, detached garage, guest house, and exterior zone coverage

Coverage testing and documentation

Coverage checked against the agreed zones, with a documented baseline at handoff

UniFi platform (where appropriate)

Gateway, access points, and optional monitoring, with recurring services identified before approval

We specialize in large homes, multi-story properties, home offices, smart-home-heavy environments, and estate network infrastructure where consumer mesh systems struggle. If you are considering a network assessment, we confirm coverage requirements before recommending any hardware.

The Hardware

Enterprise architecture. Residential deployment.

We deploy UniFi by Ubiquiti where it fits the property, then design the cabling, access-point placement, and configuration around the coverage requirements.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know about professional WiFi installation

How is this different from mesh WiFi systems?
Consumer mesh systems often use wireless backhaul between nodes, which can reduce usable capacity with each hop. A planned access-point system uses wired Ethernet where the property supports it, giving each access point a dedicated path and making coverage easier to verify and service.
Do I need to run Ethernet cables everywhere?
Not necessarily everywhere. We plan wired paths to access points where construction, access, and the required coverage justify them. Attics, basements, crawl spaces, garages, and utility routes can provide serviceable paths without treating every room the same.
What equipment brands do you use?
We often use UniFi by Ubiquiti for managed gateways, switching, and access points. The platform is selected when its routing, segmentation, local management, and documentation fit the property; alternatives are considered when another system is more appropriate.
How long does installation take?
Installation time depends on cable access, construction, the number of coverage zones, and whether the work includes switching, gateways, outdoor areas, or detached structures. Timing is confirmed after the property and scope are understood.
What if I add more devices later?
The design accounts for the known device mix and likely expansion. Documented cable paths, switching capacity, and access-point locations make later additions easier to evaluate without starting over.
Do you service my area?
We serve Northern Virginia, DC, and nearby Maryland. If you are in Great Falls, McLean, Vienna, Reston, Leesburg, Middleburg, Ashburn, or surrounding areas, we can help. Select surrounding markets are considered individually — we'll confirm fit and travel details during your assessment.
Do you provide home network installation, not just WiFi setup?
Yes. Orbit Tech designs and installs the full network layer: cabling, switches, gateways, access points, guest networks, IoT separation, and handoff documentation. A router setup is just one piece of that system.
Can you improve WiFi without changing my internet provider?
Yes. Many WiFi problems come from poor router placement, weak mesh backhaul, wall materials, or lack of wired access points. We can significantly improve performance while keeping your existing Verizon, Xfinity, Cox, Starlink, fiber, or 5G service.
Do you install WiFi for large homes and estates?
Yes. We specialize in large homes, estates, guest houses, garages, outdoor areas, and multi-building properties where consumer mesh systems struggle. Our estate network deployments include structured cabling to every coverage zone.
Do you install outdoor WiFi?
Yes. We can extend WiFi to patios, pools, detached garages, workshops, guest houses, and exterior zones using properly placed outdoor-rated access points or building-to-building wireless bridges.
Do you install structured cabling?
Yes. Professional WiFi depends on clean Cat6 or Cat6A cable routing to each access point. We route cabling through attic, basement, crawl space, garage, and utility paths where possible, and seal all penetrations cleanly.
Is this different from a router setup?
Yes. Router setup means configuring one device. Orbit Tech designs the full coverage system: gateway, cabling, PoE switching, hardwired access points, guest networks, smart-home separation, testing, and documentation — a fundamentally different scope of work.
